U18 HA Cup Victory

C&NW Under 18's secured their place in the 3rd round of the HA cup with a comprehensive victory against Streetly.

Rennie & Bell both bagged a brace along with a goal a piece from Wise and Merrel.

Coventry led 4-0 at half time, despite having Hugh Kenney Herbert sent of for retaliation, the result was never in doubt.

Streetly finaly breached the Coventry defence to earn the scant consolation of a solitary goal with just 1 minute left of normal time.

The next round takes place on the 27th November.

Double success for Under 16's

C&NW Under 16's hosted both Olton and Worcester on Sunday in the England Hockey U16 Championship.

Olton won convincingly against Worcester in the first match scoring 6 without reply.

The second game between Olton & Coventry proved to be the match of the day.

C&NW had the early pressure manufacturing two good goal scoring chances without converting either, Olton then pressed forward forcing the Coventry defence back into their own half. The game was fiercely fought by both sides with neither giving any quarter.

Olton keeper Leadbetter saved well from a penalty corner drag flick and Merrel in the Coventry goal was tidy throughout, dealing with the few chances Olton created , on the one occasion he was beaten Bhavan Thiara was on hand to clear the Coventry line. Although Coventry generate most opportunities the game remained deadlocked with neither able to work the opening.

Coventry lost skipper Matt Kettley to a yellow card but the remaining ten men held strong until his suspension was over. Then in the final minute of this fierce contest a long ariel ball from Kettley found Chris Sewell just outside the Olton area and he in turn pushed the ball on to Robbie Astin who's initial shot was well saved but he made no mistake with the rebound. Olton appealed loudly claiming that Sewell had used his body to control the ball but neither of the two umpires were moved and the goal stood, leaving C&NW victors by the slightest of margins.

Coventry’s second game against Worcester turned out to be a more convincing victory, Worcester fought hard throughout and created some good scoring opportunities but the absence of a large squad saw them tire in the second game as Coventry made frequent substitutions. Early goals from Robbie Astin and Tom Morgan helped the home side take control and Kettley made it 3-0 before half time. Second half goals from Chris Sewell and a second from Tom Morgan made the final score 5-0 to Coventry.

The side play Shrewsbury and Edgbaston on the 27th November and are hoping to book their place in the next round.

U16's top the table

C&NW U16’s HA Championship

The final two matches of this round against Shrewsbury and Edgbaston saw Coventry needing two wins to be sure of qualification to the next round.

Seven goals from Chris Sewell along with 4 from Robbie Astin and one a piece from Josh O’Brien and Tom Morgan made sure that C&NW topped the group by the end of the day progressing to the next stage of the nationals.

Despite starting a tough game against Edgbaston without a goal keeper the Coventry youngsters fought hard to defend the empty net, Matt Payne racing back to make a last ditch goal line clearance epitomised the spirit of the side. With Adam Merrel fully kitted and between the posts Coventry slowly took control of the match winning 5-1.

The second game against a very young Shrewsbury side was never in doubt, the Coventry Midfield quartet of Phillipson, Weber, Jenkinson and Thiara dominated the opposition, giving them little ball to work with and were constantly driving forward to support the forwards.

The youngsters now take a well earned break awaiting the draw for the next round to be played some time next year.

Under 16 HA Championship

Despite remaining unbeaten the Under 16’s just missed out on a place in the National finals.

Having won their group they progressed to the regional play offs at Repton on Sunday.

The late withdrawal of Oxford Hawks saw them pitted against Cannock and Norwich.

A hard fought draw against Cannock coming from behind showed real character and determination and could so easily have ended in a win.

C&NW needed to beat Norwich by 4 clear goals to guarantee their place in the final but despite total domination and creating chance after chance they could only manage a single score.

The boys have been a credit to the club and gave everything they had and all of them have gained valuable experience from the competition.

Thanks to all the parents for their support and to Rory who travelled to umpire them at Henley and Repton in some fairly unpleasant conditions.

U10 Team Through to Midlands Finals

The U10s played some great hockey last week with 5 backhand goals from Adam Wade, 2 from Marcus Tombs, a super strike from Jodie Hollingsworth and the youngest player on the team Jake Wade with a superb tip in from a cross. Nathaniel Brassington and Daniel Sullivan defended brilliantly and Oscar doyle and Malachy Fawcett worked hard in all 5 matches.

The Future of the club is certainly looking safe in these young players hands!

U12's Join U10's in Midlands Finals

The team with only 7 player worked hard to beat Harborne, Sutton and Old Sills in their group to set up a Semi final with Olton. Oliver Mansell and Sam Lowe both scored goals in the group games on their Cov & NW debuts. The team kept improving and with Finlay Williams alomost unbeatable in goal and Andrew Delow carving teams open with some skillfull running it was Coventry who progressed 3-1 winners over Olton and set up a repaet of the U10's final.

The final wa s a high quality affair and Daniel Murray defended superbly to keep the game close. Jack Bennet was working tirelsessly and Ezra Lingarde hassled the Rugby defence. At full time the game was tied 1-1 so extra time loomed. Unfortunately Coventry were unable to keep out a good Rugby attack and could not reply in time and lost out 2-1.

The team will now begin prepparing for the Midlands Finals on Sunday 1st April at Rugby School.

Well done to all the boys who played so well and worked so hard.

U10's make the Semi Final!!1

The U10 team played extremely well to make it to the Semi Final stage of the Midlands 'In 2 Hockey' tournament at Trugby school on Saturday 31st April.

A draw with Belper followed by a 3-0 win over Telford with 2 goals from Adam Wade and calm finish from 6 year old Jake Wade started the team off in good form. Oscar Doyle playng in goal for the first time remained unbeaten in the group stages and with a goal in each game from goal machine Jake Wade, Coventry recorded 1-0 wins over Boots and North Stafford.

The Semi final was a very tight game and Marcus Tombs and Adam Wade both came close to scoring. Unfortunately Beeston were just too strong with a whole team of 10 year olds and Coventry's younger players featuring two 6 year olds and two 8 year olds were outclassed.

Beeston ended up winning the tournament against the other Warwickshire team Rugby.

Well done to evryone who played so well and we hope to be back again next year for another try at winning th trophy!
